Math Tutoring in Small Groups (Lakewood, CO)

Serving Lakewood, Colorado and the surrounding communities, InsightSGI (Insight Small Group Instruction) is a hybrid math tutoring-teaching experience for students who are looking for more thorough mathematics preparation. Students in InsightSGI are gathered in groups of no more than four in customized lessons characterized by frequent instructor interaction and monitored peer interaction.

The primary goal of each InsightSGI lesson is to complement traditional and home-school classes by encouraging a deep understanding of relevant mathematical concepts as well as the connections that exist between concepts. Emphasis is also given to encouraging growth mindset, academic curiosity, effectiveness in peer instruction, and academic skills (study skills, organization, and successful classroom practices).

InsightSGI's private classroom is located just west of the Belmar Complex in Lakewood. Parents are encouraged to stay and listen to class sessions, but proximity to the Belmar stores, library, and parks offer convenient alternatives.

Cohorts focused on the following curricula are being built now for the 2017-18 school year:

  • Intermediate Algebra (grades 4 through 6)
  • Pre-Algebra (grades 7 and 8)
  • Algebra I and II (integrated and traditional)
  • Geometry
  • Pre-Calculus
  • AP Calculus
  • AP Physics

Math ACT, SAT, and GRE Preparation (Nationwide)

InsightSGI offers special sessions in a variety of formats for students who are preparing to take the Mathematics portions of college entrance examinations (ACT and SAT) or the Quantitative Reasoning portion of the Graduate Records Examination (GRE). Emphasis in these sessions is given to content review and mastery, general approaches to identifying the correct response to selected-response items, and specific strategies that lead to success on each exam.

Unlike most available test-preparation packages and programs, InsightSGI sessions are tailored to meet the individual needs of each student. These sessions are provided in a variety of formats:

  • Small-Group Cohort Sessions (for Lakewood-area students)
  • Saturday Sessions (for Lakewood-area students)
  • Distance Sessions (phone, email, web, and/or text interface)
