2017-18 Session Calendar
This calendar reflects the most recent schedule of face-to-face InsightSGI session activity. Any change in this calendar will be noted here and will be provided directly to the parents of active student participants.
Weekday Cohort Sessions
SGI (Small Group Instruction) sessions are scheduled weekly meetings during which a given cohort of no more than four students will gather for 50 minutes. Cohorts are built around common curricular levels so that appropriate individual challenges can be designed more easily and so that cohort students can support one another in their learning. It is expected that students will attend regularly so that the small community of learners can be built. Session starting times are 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, and 7:00 p.m. on each of the SGI session days.
The fee for each 50-minute session is $35. The weeks during which there are no SGI sessions (as seen on the calendar) reflect district breaks in either or both the Denver Public Schools' and Jefferson County Schools' calendars.
There are two different designs for the Saturday sessions at InsightSGI: ACT/SAT/GRE Preparation and Homework Help. All Saturday sessions are 50-minutes in length, no more than four students will be registered for any given session, and the fee for one participant in each of these sessions is $35. Starting times for these sessions are 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, noon, 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 p.m.
ACT/SAT/GRE Preparation - The Saturday ACT/SAT/GRE Prep sessions provide a shorter and more flexible option for students preparing to take the mathematics portions of college readiness/entrance exams. Time in these sessions will be devoted to both math content and to advantageous familiarity with exam formats. Content emphasis will be given to those content areas that are more heavily represented on these exams, and to those areas identified as areas of need by session students. Practice problems will be chosen to illustrate a variety of approaches that have proven to streamline the process of identifying solutions.
Homework Help - These sessions are provided in an effort to support students who are struggling with homework for any number of reasons. These students may only need a bit of help to get through a tough unit, they may be students who are interested in determining if InsightSGI weekday sessions are something they may wish to try, and they may be current weekday students who need help beyond the homework help that can be provided in their weekday session.
Virtual class sessions, ACT/SAT/GRE preparation sessions, and homework help sessions can be scheduled directly with InsightSGI. These one-on-one sessions are scheduled around the face-to-face sessions, but are otherwise flexible. The primary medium for these sessions is phone conversation, although student internet access is essential. The cost of an initial 50-minute session is $35, the cost for a second session is $50, and the subsequent session cost is $80. Students are expected to exert one to two hours of study between each phone session. Note that the number of phone sessions necessary to prepare a student for success on the mathematics portion of a college entrance/placement test varies depending on the amount of preparation that is necessary and the student effort extended. For most, it is expected that 3 to 5 sessions will provide adequate math preparation.
In-home class sessions, ACT/SAT/GRE preparation sessions, and homework help sessions can also be scheduled directly with InsightSGI. The cost of an initial 50-minute session is $50, the cost for a second session is $75, and the subsequent session cost is $95. Specific goals and session designs will be determined on an individual basis prior to the initial session.
Payment: Fee payment is expected on or before the day of the session. Fees can be paid through direct deposit, Paypal, personal check, or cash.
Drop-off and Pick-up: Although parents are encouraged to stay and listen to session activities, parents and designated adults will be given the alternative to drop off and pick up students. InsightSGI is located a few blocks west of the Belmar shopping complex in Lakewood and is, therefore conveniently located for parents who wish to shop, or visit the nearby library and parks.
